German Rooster

does anyone remember a book about a horse, a rooster and a dog? Maybe entitled “Bremertown Musicians”?

It’s a children’s book, i think the town is a German one (hence, me not knowing how to spell Bremertown). The story is about some animals that wander through town “singing”. I think they’re actually running away from their respective homes because they’re all so old and their owners want to send them away (the horse to the glue factory, the rooster for dinner, etc). I only remember one part really, and it’s where the animals stand on each other’s backs and someone gets scared that their figure is a ghost or something…

It sounds very familiar since it is once of my favorite stories. The Town Musicians of Bremen (German Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten, also translated as the Bremen Town Musicians) is a fairy tale recorded by the Brothers Grimm.
