The Best Survival Knives And Who Makes Them

Some of the best survival knives ever manufactured are being built today.  With composites, different types of steels, and the myriad of options that can be had it’s no wonder that picking out the right one can be daunting.  The good thing is that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to get a great knife.  I’ll give you a few examples.

My top pick is the Gerber LMF II.  This knife is great.  I like the size, the weight, and the options it comes with.  I own the survival version, which is the same as the ASEK except for the color and the fact that it’s not infra-red resistant.  It has been able to do everything I’ve asked of it and then some. This knife helped a soldier keep his location concealed in darkness when the enemy approached, so it has done a good job of proving it’s worth in real life scenarios.

My next pick is the SOG Seal Pup.  This is an awesome tactical knife and I really like the one that has the tiger stripe pattern.  In a survival scenario the paint on the blade won’t matter, but until then it sure does look cool.  I also like the small indent on the sheath that allows you to cut para-cord without having to take the knife out.  That’s a great feature to have.

The last knife I’d like to tell you about is the Ka-Bar.  This is a hard knife to miss.  It’s so Iconic there’s never a question of what knife it is when someone pulls it out.  The stacked leather handle is great even when wet and the fact that it was THE military knife back in the day just pushes it over the top.

Whether you have a Gerber, SOG, Ka-Bar, or a pen knife, in a survival situation the knife you have on you IS your survival knife and becomes your most important tool.  Most survival situations aren’t planned, but with a little forethought you can have the right tool at the right time for the right job.
