What degree is my knife blade?
I’m looking into buying this sharpener:

which says it works with 30° knife blades. I have a Gerber Answer 3.25

and it does not say what degree the blade is..
So how do I tell what kind of blade it is and if this sharpener will work? Thanks!
Your link would not allow me to look at the sharpener. But here is some basic tips. The degrees is the angle of the bevel on the blade. A 20 degree of less is like a razor. Super sharp but will not last long when it contacts bone. A 25 or 30 degree angle is considered a working edge. It will last quite a while before having to be resharpened again. And if a sharpener is designed to provide a certain degree of angle to a blade, if you use it on a particular knife, no matter what it’s original bevel was, the bevel on the blade will soon be the same as the 30 degrees on your sharpener. It will reshape the blades bevel over a period of time.
But personally I prefer the shaving sharp blade to skin my deer with This would be under 22 degrees or less.But everyone has their own opinions on this.
