Can you put a butt spike on the end of a one handed sword in the east kingdom of the SCA? (No basket hilt)?

I was told that it is possible to have a butt spike on the end of a single handed weapon as long as no basket hilt is present. Obviously a gauntlet will need to be worn. I am looking for rulings within the East Kingdom.

Any comments?

Society Handbook on Martial Standards says in VII. Weapons Standards…Section B…Number 4: No weapon may have a cutting and/or smashing surface at both ends. (This applies only to single handed weapons)

I searched the East Kingdom’s Earl Marshall’s page and it didn’t say anything and since the Society’s rules trump the kingdom rules I would say you can’t because this sword has a cutting and thrusting end as well as another thrusting end. That is the only reason, I could be wrong, but you’d have to talk to your kingdom Earl Marshall (Send them an email). You might however look into a madeux, it is a single hand short spear that has tips on both ends (can’t cut but you can thrust). I know for a fact these are legal since they only have thrusting ends not cutting ends. I have used it with great success and in fact now fight florentine style with a sword and madeux as my prefered method. I affix the handguard higher then one end so that the longer end is below my hand and the shorter end is on top. Great for sudden stabs from below.
