Forged Razor
will sharpening any of my swords with an ‘ accusharp ‘ ruin them?
i collect medieval colectables and medieval european swords , i have claymores , broadswords , mortuary swords , NOT wall hangers but real proper forged swords.
a couple of them including a couple of my mortuary swords arrived with not much of an edge to them , not razor sharp ( i can run my finger along the edge ) of one of them.
i was just wanting to know if i used an accusharp to sharpen one of my mortuary swords , would it ruin the sword in any way ?

Those devices were designed to create an edge that a sword is NOT designed to sustain, believe it or not but a sword does not have to have a SHARP cutting edge to be effective- that’s the stuff of Hollywood.
When fighting with a sword you are meant to put a fair amount of force behind each blow, put to much of an edge on them and you run the risk of chipping the blade (VERY high) or even breaking it. Constant sharpening weakens the blade, making it more likely to break in battle.
Swords that were designed for use on the battle field SHOULD have a duller edge than duelling swords, look at what sort of combat the blade was intended for at it will tell you what sort of an edge to put on it.
And being a collector, you should know better than to allow skin to come into contact with a sword! The natural oils on your skin will cause the blade to rust- it has to be CLEANED after each contact with human skin!
