what’s the value of a good flying eagle penny?

i just want to know what the value of a flying eagle penny is if the coin is in good condition.

Depending on what year, and exactly how “good” a condition it’s in, anywhere from about $15 to several thousand if you sold it to a dealer.

If it’s worn to the point that the designs are pretty much outlines with just a few major details remaining (which is actually the grade “Good”), an 1856 is about $3000, while an 1857 and 1858 would be about $15.

If most of the major details are still visible (including the tips of the eagle’s feathers) are still sharp, about $5000 for an 1856, and about $25 for a ’57 or ’58.

If there is just a little wear on the high points, maybe something around $10,000 for an 1856, and $60 to $75 for an 1857 or 58.

Because the 1856 is worth so much money, it’s not unusual for an “1856″ to actually be an 1858 that someone has altered the date. If it looks like yours is an 1856, you’ll want to take it to a dealer for authentication.

Whatever you do, don’t try to clean the coin or “improve” it’s appearance in any way. Cleaning damages the surface of the coin, and kills the value.
