Fluted Bone

Playing a duet with a trombone (I’m a flute) are there any ways to make it sound less…weird?
I play a C flute, and my duet partner plays the tenor trombone. We’re going to learn the duet “Funny ‘Bone” by Tim New, but we can’t seem to get it right. Are there any ways to make it sound better, or tips for tuning?
Haha, I think that might sound a little funny no matter what.
I would suggest, for tuning, practice some other songs together to get used to playing in tune together. Before you play, tune to a tuner, then tune to each other. Make sure to listen for the “beats.”
When you’re playing try not to just listen to your self but also listen to him as much as possible. Once you guys develop a connection and get used to playing together, you will naturally play better in tune.
Also, he might easily overpower you so if he does just politely ask him to play a little more quietly. If you two play at the same volume it should sound much better! Good luck!
