What are people like in the educated, progressive cities along the east coast?

Like, Cambridge Massachusetts?

I live in Boston and much of my work and many of my friends are in Cambridge. Sounds like it might be your kind of place. Can’t imagine someone judging you on your phone, of all crazy things, or your clothes anywhere let alone Cambridge.

I think, but am not sure, that Cambridge is the blue-est town in Massachusetts. It is probably way up near the top in terms of average level of education too.
