Legal to kill an attacking dog not on leash?

I was chased by a dog and bitten on the calf last month while running in the neighborhood. I didn’t know who the dog belongs to(no tag, not on leash, but has a collar) and was not able to hold the person accountable for it.

I would think so. It is self-defense after all. And the person who owns the dog is the one who would be held responsible. You should report that to the police or the humane society in your area.
