Dagger Nib

Is it acceptable to replace an athame?

My family is Catholic so they would be opposed to mt practicing Wicca, so if I ask them for a “ritual dagger”, I’m sure they would jump the gun. I’m pretty anti-weapon myself and wouldn’t believe in holding a dagger, I just get connotations of violence and that’s never good in any Religious practice. I have a good condition quill with a sharp nib. Since it can be used to represent Air, could I use this as a carving tool or athame instead of a traditional athame dagger?

You don’t have to use anything at all. Tools are just tools, they don’t make anything happen without the mind. Some people just use their hands in place of the recommended ritual tools… But consider how your family would feel if they knew you were practicing private religious rituals in their house without their knowledge.
As a pagan, I would be a bit miffed if a child or guest started trying to practice a catholic mass in my house, so why would you think it’s OK to just up and start doing Wiccan rituals in a house owned by catholics? Without their permission, I would hold off on any such rituals and just work on your meditation and focus until you have your own space to practice in. Is secrecy, shame and subterfuge really the way you want to start on a spiritual path?
