Corian Knife

im making a knife, blade question?

made a knife.
should i spray the blade with engine paint and bake it to keep it from rusting?
or should i just leave it bare metal?

First, congratulations on making your own knife. I think paint it and see for yourself. If you do, it can rust under the paint until you find out too late to do a fix. I have lately (this month) discovered Duracoat firearms finishes which they say is used on knives.When I make my integral camp knives from 1″ x 2″ A-2 tool steel , I will give Duracoat a try. The reason it is so bull tough is that it is both hard and flexible. Many coatings are hella harder, but not flexible and can chip out. I would also advise you not to paint the actual blade bevel as coatings there actually effect the cutting action…wedges in at a molecular level or not as slick as hard steel, I am not sure, but it’s true.I came on here seeing about painting kydex, and your question is all that came up. Do you have any pictures of your knife? I think I might just have to use duck tape to put accents on my kydex gun holster. Cheaper than getting it duracoated, eh? Finally, Corian makes a great handle. Even though it is heavy, it won’t burn if it touches fire or hot objects. I think Corian countertops you do not have to put a hot pad under the frying pan you just took off the stove. Correct me if I am wrong. I have some killer orange Corian. It’s half inch thick and I can’t wait to use it.
