Will 8 inch channel iron work ?

I want to do my basement over and there is a colum in the way. I want to remove that colum and put up two pieces of 8 inch channel iron on either side of the main beam,The main beam in three 2×10 nailed together.I want to put the two peices of channel and either side and bolt them together.From the foundation pocket to the next colum will be 14 feet so it will only 14 that I am trying to open up the channel will be 20 feet long,like i said I am looking to remove one colum and want to open up 14 feet will this work? The house is a small 2 story colonial

No engineer or architect worth his drafting pencil will give you an answer like this without doing a structural analysis.

You need to spend the money to hire an engineer, or risk having your house settle and incur structural damage.
