Not to be stipulatory or anything but, you need a knife collectors license to have a butterfly knife or it’s illegal to have one so there has to be a knife collectors license. Thank you for your time though.
You do not need a license to collect knives in Texas or any state that I know of. Contact the American Knife and Tool institute for more information. Good luck and enjoy your collecting. You do not need a special license to collect Butterfly knives or Automatic knives. If they are illegal in your State then they are illegal. There is no license like there is for firearms. In some states it is ok to own them but not to carry or have them outside of your home. One president that has been set by the courts is dealers and makers/ manufacturers can make or sell their products as long as they obey all federal, state and local laws. This is based on the lawful commerce acts and does not cover civilian/ collectors. Many makers and dealers will not ship to people in States where they are illegal and others will because they do not know or do not care about the laws. It is generally considered the responsibility of the buyer to meet all applicable State, federal and local laws when purchasing a product of this nature. Most companies even post a disclaimer on their site or in their catalogs stating such. The Federal Govt. has banned the importation of fully assembled “butterfly knives” but parts and domestic manufactured knives are ok.
