What exactly is a “chopper”?

In the musical Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, during the song By the Sea, Mrs. Lovett sings “By the sea, married nice and proper. By the sea, bring along your chopper.” and I was wondering what a chopper is? I doubt in 19th-Century London they’d be talking about the slang term for helicopter.

It’s a double entendre (double-meaning). Basically a naughty pun. A butcher’s chopper is a large cleaver for cutting up sides of meat (put “butchers chopper” into Google Images and you’ll see what I mean) and a chopper is also English slang for a penis.

So she’s saying ‘bring along the meat cleaver’ in two senses.
