Chinese Broadsword

Are chinese broadsword moves and techniques similar to samurai sword techniques?
im in Tien Shan Pai Kung Fu and right now in class the only weapon that i am using is the stick, which relates to the broadsword in our style..so i know what whenever i reach the higher ranks, i’ll be using a real broadsword, and maybe eventually a samurai sword….are the things you do with a broadsword similar to what you do with a samurai sword?.
for example, we have a form which is called Pan Lung Bien Gan, which means Coiling Dragon Whip in english, and that is one of the moves in the form, could i do that with a samurai sword even though it is meant for a stick or broadsword?
The Chinese broadsword is sometimes a name used for a dao. This is a single handed Chines sword. The miao dao is a two handed Chinese sword slightly longer than a katana but with a much longer handle. The miao dao could be used exactly like a katana, only the tradition moves are different. Of course, there are only so many ways you can move a sword, so if you train in miao dao as well as dao, it would be easy to also train in katana. I specialise in Chinese sword styles but also play with single and double handed European swords. There are often similarities. The more training you do, the easier it becomes to pick up a whole new style with a different sword.
