Case Ivory

Case Ivory
Why is ivory so treasured (elephant tusks)?

I am sad that one of the cases of the elephant being endangered is because people are too afraid that they will charge or something and just kill them and take their tusks i am so sad elephants are my favorite mammal (i love guldian finches).I feel sad they kill them but tranquilizer guns are expensive (this is only poaching not farmers or something like that) anyway elephants are not safe and even in parks where they can live some poachers manage to enter and poach them.

Because i feel like it i will write some more stuff about elephants.
I know no farmer would like the biggest land animal on their crop but i cant believe anyone would kill these playful creatures they are beautiful. But i am not saying that you can just come and shoo them away, elephants (and rhinos) will charge and that is not precious i know and maybe there is away we can conserve their beauty :)

Please answer :)

Tradition. Before the age of plastic, Ivory is valued as raw materials to manufacture goods. It has a nice feel to it. Because it had real value in the past and is associated with a luxerous life style, the value caries over to modern times. THe real sad part is that there was a program to remove the tusk from elephants so that poachers have no reason to attack elephants. What end up happening, was the poachers killed the elephants out of spite. There is a discussion about legalizing ivory so the government can harvest the ivory with out killing the elephant and use the profits to help maintain the elephant population.
