What to replace alcohol/rum in cakes recipes?

Is there any replacement for alcohol/wine/rum in cakes recipes? The following recipe for example

You can probably just leave out the rum without replacing it and the recipe would turn out fine. But if you are worried about the balance and want to make sure it turns out right I’m sure the same measure of water will be a fine replacement.
