Subcom for a defensive Knife?

I’m looking to buy a defense knife.I don’t have 150$ to spend on a spyderco or anything,so I’m thinking about a Boker Subcom.I already have a dozen “do everything” knives,I’m looking for a beefier one I can use in an emergency.

Unless you have trained extensively with the Subcom, I would not recommend it. From a defensive standpoint, the Subcom is a “slicing” only knife because the blade shape is not conducive to stabbing actions. This aspect removes a great deal of your defensive options. You would be much better served by a Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Mini Covert with Combo Edge Blade. They sell on the internet for much less than $50.

Keep it sharp and train like you fight!
