How do I remove the broken shovel handle from the shovel blade?

My son was using our shovel (& doing just fine I might add), digging a hole for a fish pond. Nosy neighbor came by to steal some dirt and as an excuse he said he came by to give my teenage son a “better” shovel to use (old, probably ten years or so). After using it for only an hour, the shovel handle snapped right at the shovel head. So now the neighbor has my dirt and I owe him a new shovel — unless, of course, someone can tell me how to fix it. Take it to a local mom and pop hardware store. We have an Ace Hardware store in town. They’re always more than helpful. If you’re lucky, they may even do it for you and just charge you for the handle
