One of the most popular costumes this year is Harry Potter. The new movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released this summer and fans from across the globe are planning to dress up as Harry Potter this Halloween.

You can turn into the magical Harry Potter himself by combining a few costume pieces.  There are also lots of new Harry Potter accessories available to complete your look.

Put together a great Harry Potter costume with these tips:

Harry Potter Gryffindor Robe – Every Harry Potter fan knows that Harry belongs to the House of Gryffindor and wears a black Gryffindor robe with Gryffindor crest embroidered onto it.You can find Harry Potter Gryffindor robes online or use a black robe that you already have.There are many options depending on how fancy you want your costume to be. 

Add your own black pants, black shoes and white collared shirt to complete the look.

Harry Potter Glasses – Harry Potter is never seen without his trademark round glasses.Wearing a pair of round Harry Potter glasses makes your costume more complete.We found lots of great Harry Potter glasses available online for less than five dollars.

Harry Potter Tie – Harry Potter wears the Gryffindor tie that is burgundy in color and has gold stripes.  You can find real Gryffindor ties for sale or you can make your own.  To make your own Gryffindor tie you can go the craft store and buy some burgundy felt fabric.Pin your tie to the top of the felt fabric and trace a pattern around the tie with a pen.  Cut out the tie shape by cutting along the pen line.Use gold fabric paint to paint an alternating pattern of stripes down the tie.Quick and simple.

Carry a Harry Potter Wand – every magical wizard needs a magic wand.There are many choices for a cool Harry Potter wand!There are many wands to choose from including those that light up and make sound.Any will work for your costume.

Add a Harry Potter Scar – Harry has a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead.  When he was a baby he survived an attack by evil Lord Voldemort which left a scar on his forehead.To create a lightning bolt scar you can draw the shape on your forehead with a eyeliner pencil.You can find lightning bolt scar kits and temporary tattoos online for a scary looking scar.

Other fun accessories could be a Harry Potter lantern.  We found one that lights up so it is great for trick or treating.Add a Harry Potter broomstick and dress up as Harry playing Quidditch for a unique costume idea.  There are some new Quidditch costumes this year that are really cool.
