Black Cord

Is the Black Amp cord on a car stereo actually a ground wire?
My 1999 Mazda Protege LX has 12 cords plus 1 black cord with a clip attachment that reads AMP 12V. It was attached to my stock radio just by clipping on to a piece of metal on the back of the unit. I
My aftermarket radio has a black wire that is supposed to be grounded to a bolt. I’m wondering if i can just cut both wires and crimp them together(assuming the black cord with the clip that reads AMP 12V is a ground wire..) Hi,
It’s not likely that it is a ground wire.
It could be a power connector that is used to power a factory installed amp.
I would be very careful before connecting anything to it.
It would be a good idea to use a voltage tester with the car on and the car off to see if it is producing voltage. If it is, just use electrical tape to cover it.
There is probably a ground wire in one of the harnesses that is in the picture. If you don’t have a harness to plug into your cars harness you may want to buy one as it makes things easier to wire.
If you don’t buy the harness it is easy to locate a suitable grounding point for your car stereos ground wire. Just make sure it’s not loose, if it is you will have issues with the stereo turning on and off or terrible sound quality.
