1. Afghan hound. The Afghan hound has for a family name “hound” which means to pursue and to chase. With an average weight of as much as 60 lbs in its prime years, chasing would really be to the detriment of the evil one being chased.

2. Boxer. The boxer dog can grow to as much as 53 to 70 lbs in its prime years. With the increase in weight comes a high spirited nature. With its seemingly frowning face, the Boxer is the apt picture of power and speed.

3. Collie. Nothing beats the use of intelligence in doing a task. The Collie is said to be an intelligent big dog breed. Aside from this, a Collie can weigh as much as 75 lbs in its prime years. Intelligence coupled with strength is a perfect combination for a watch dog.

4. Doberman. The Doberman is a perfect breed for a guard dog. Its assertiveness and stubborn nature adds strength to its character. These qualities are added to its massive physique (It can weigh to as much as 66 to 88 lbs.) there is no question the Doberman is a perfect guard dog.

5. German shepherd. A dog named after a country of strength and quality goods, the German shepherd lives up to its country namesake. The German shepherd can weigh to as much as 77 to 85 lbs. With a massive size, this breed is a candidate for Mr. Watchdog.

6. Golden Retriever. A perfect choice for a family dog, the Golden Retriever is a jewel to have. It lives up to its golden name that radiates dignity and royalty. It is well mannered, loving and trainable. The Golden Retriever can weigh to as much as 55 to 80 lbs.

7. Greyhound. The Greyhound is slim and long and looks like as gentle as a deer. Despite it built, it can weigh to as much as 70 lbs and this connotes strength and power.

8. Labrador. The Labrador’s loyalty is its outstanding trait. It can weigh to as much as 55 to 75 lbs. But this weight does not stop it from enjoying the waters. It loves the water. In land or in water, it will enjoy its stay.
