Free To Play MMO Games
Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games or MMORPGs, are quite popular these days. There is something truly entertaining about immersing yourself in a virtual world of magical wonders and high fantasy.
You might be the knight who would brave the darkest forests and terrible fortresses to slay the magic beasts and win untold riches. Or perhaps you might be the magician who would become the most powerful magician in the known land, or perhaps the dark lord who will rule the many lands.
With MMOGs, you could be anyone and anything, you want to be. The limits are only bounded by your imagination. That’s why everyone loves them.
The only problem is that not all MMO games are free to play. Often, you’d have to pay for the MMOG itself, if not the monthly membership fee. Do you want to pay good money for something you can get for nothing?
That’s why too many devout gamers have searched far and wide for good free MMORPG games that might be worth their commitment. In the past almost all of these types of MMORPGs were not very good but this is not true anymore. Nowadays the some of the top game companies have created top-of-the-line MMORPGs that cost nothing to play or download. In addition many previously pay to play games have switched over to free to get more new players.
What’s the catch? You could ask why exactly they are not charging a subscription fee. The reason is simple they operate on a different business model compared to premium games. This is “freemium” business model in which most of the content is offered to players for free except for some premium or paid contents.
In other words, when a gamer starts playing, all skills and content are free just like a free trial except without the time limits. Then as the gamer explores more areas, there will be a few premium items or expansion packs offered for higher level players. These items or expansion packs are all optional and are merely offer more variety. Quite a few of these premium items are purely for the looks that do not even give any special bonuses. They are there just to make the player avatars looks better.
For example, all of the regular players will have to use the generic-looking steel long sword but there might be a fun-looking flaming sword for those who want to buy it. The boring-looking steel sword has precisely the same equipment stats as the awesome-looking magic sword – people are paying for just to have the better-looking equipment.
These types of items are called vanity items since they are bought purely for customization and do not really affect character stats. They are rather like buying costly extras like custom car grills for your car. Obviously, they do not actually improve car efficiency but they improve your car’s visual appeal, and people are happy enough to buy that type of thing. It’s the same with freemium MMOs with the added benefit of these completely optional vanity items in place of premium subscription fees.
Sound good? Freemium MMORPG games are ideal for casual gamers who only play irregularly because they are not willing to pay for something they won’t even play every day. It’s also good for poor gamers who can’t spend too much for online games.
Those are some of the many reasons why gamers are flocking to these online games. To summarize, it’s mainly because gamers love the adventure.
