Not all spring assist knives are illegal under Pen C 653k, but I believe this one is. The site says “Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.” I don’t know who “considers” the knife to be legal, but an automatic opening by any “mechanical device” is all that is required to make a knife with a 2 inch or longer blade a switchblade under California law. I’d say pass on this one.
