How do you improve your Army-style push ups?

Im planning on commissioning as an officer in the Army and my weakness when it comes to PT is push ups (sit ups im fine with) is there a way into increasing the amount of push ups you can do within the 2 minute time period? If so, how? Also, When you do exercises, do they make you do it in cadence (like 1,2,3, 1 and so forth) or do they just do it straight up?

Not that all of these fancy routines and regimens won’t work for you, but you don’t honestly need them. You can get by with just doing pushups every other day until you reach your goal, and the results would be just the same. What worked for me was just to train four days a week, every day mixing running, situps, and pushups. That’s what helped me pass my first PT test. Just get out there and go for a decent run, a truly challenging number of pushups, and enough situps to at least maintain your average. You don’t have to kill yourself and you don’t have to worry yourself with complicated routines that will leave you out of whack if you forget one workout, just as long as you don’t cheat yourself. That’s the path I followed when I needed to get in shape, and it really did work very well. When I enrolled in Army ROTC, I could do, I kid you not, five pushups. But after doing this for three or four weeks I was able to get sixty or so pushups on my PT test, which is well beyond the minimum. Just put your head to it and don’t cheat yourself and you’ll be fine.
