How does it make you feel to be ignored? What are thoughts worth (poem)?
Yard Sale
Initially activity was slow
but soon picked up by early afternoon;
a pocket watch with fob was first to go.
Then next a brooch of abalone shell,
a tintype photograph in rusted frame,
and even stranger things began to sell.
When double what it’s worth was offered for
an antique book I’d kept throughout the years,
it seemed unwise to wait and hope for more.
The day took on a near-surreal scene
when two determined buyers fought to get
my last authentic Hummel figurine.
The cash came in for worthless pans and pots,
old clothes, and even undeveloped film—
but not one blasted penny for my thoughts.
There’s your problem. One blasted penny is just too cheap! My thoughts are worth a fortune!!! I write the scripts for on-line porno. Terrible stuff, isn’t it? Hahaha…
Seriously, I like this poem very much. The twist in the last line makes it perfect.
You must watch a lot of “Clean House” re-reruns. I sure do! It keeps me from doing housework.
That show should have had a contest. The winner would be flown in to SHOP at their yard sales. A baby grand piano for $50.00? SOLD! It would be a be yotch getting it on the plane back home though…
Do you ever stop and think that what is sold at yard sales turns into clutter at someone else’s house and then they have to have a yard sale to get rid of it? Where does it finally stop??? It’s like trying to imagine eternity. You can’t do it without getting a headache.
